The Mental Welfare Commission welcomes the Scottish Government’s initial response to the Scottish Mental Health Law Review published today.
The Scottish Mental Health Law Review was based on three years of consultation and evidence gathering; it highlighted the need for urgent legislative reform in Scotland and also made recommendations that can be progressed without a change in law.
Sandy Riddell, Chair of the Mental Welfare Commission said:
“We welcome the Scottish Government’s statement that some work can start now and we agree that we are “not starting from scratch”.
The Commission remains committed to working in partnership to advance human rights and drive forward the transformation that is needed in Scotland now and into the future”.
